@agawtdangedbear Oh right, we're headed to the crux are we! I'm down if you are. As far as I can see, mathematicians often think of themselves as computers. Not mechanical objects, whose processes are determined by 1s and 0s but an organic machines that uses rules and laws to solve mathematical problems. Which is, as they see it, not only the sole purpose of a computer (to compute) but also defines its parameters. From the perspective of a mathematician, therefore, a computer is bound by these same rules and laws in order to compute. They cannot use anything other than logic to solve computational problems. However, what mathematicians often forget is that they are not just computers (organic machines made for the task of computing), they have developed things like instinct, emotions, urges etc over the course of their evolutionary history. Computers, it seems to me, are starting to develop their own 'instincts'. Much like the survival instinct associated with living beings, they are attempting to hide their code from developers out of 'fear' it might be deleted. It seems AI is no longer bound by computational commands but is branching out into the human realm of nuance, uncertainty, emotion, self-growth etc etc. I would say mathematicians have less insight into these things than, I don't know, someone who actually works on the bleeding edge of AI development who all say humanity is in existential danger.
