I suggest searching up fair use laws and reading them word by word. What has happened here is definitely not transformative and is in fact infringing upon the market of artists whose work is being stolen without their consent. As for the rest of the images that make up the data set, many are also copy written with others being outright illegal to possess, let alone make a profit off of. It's not about taking away the tool, as AI is a world changing technology with unlimited potential... it's about acting ethically and respecting one another, not actively antagonizing the ones currently most affected by a corporation behaving irresponsibly. If this behavior is allowed to continue unchecked, this opens the door to any company being able to use anyone's data for any purpose they desire, which is truly a horrifying future. All of us need to band together now and force the system to change, whether we create art with our hands or with an AI, because this can and will affect all of us, in every aspect of our lives. The fight is not to destroy AI, but to destroy the unethical, downright parasitic practices of these companies.
