Giving my take on common stances:
Ai steals audience from artists: That's not true. Backlash from people who are vehemently against ai art in all forms proves that there will be people who will never willingly support ai art. And there also exists people who don't care and will support both based on personal preference. The ease of making ai art doesn't take away from the crafts-person-ship of individual artists. It's a matter of do you want to buy furniture from a department store or commission a carver.
Some people lack the skill, time, ability to make their own art. What should they do if they want to create?: I don't think art like any career should be exclusive the whole concept of "the one job" is classist as a whole. As for effort that really depends on the person. The time and drive it takes to pursue any endeavor is always going to have cost. We simply can't do everything, so do and make the most of what you find worthwhile. It shouldn't be the case where everything should be as grueling as a job to do well or be satisfied. There are somethings and usually this is hobbies where we want instant satisfaction for attempting instead of a potential future reward of gratification. I'm trying to say that there are people who don't have fun doing art casually but still have the drive to pursue art. Should they be excluded? Should art be exclusive? I feel it shouldn't. I feel bad for when people want to do something but their efforts cause them suffering. I think ai art could help alleviate this so that everyone can be proud of their own art even if it's not perfect. Basically the use of ai art as a guide to help aspiring artists get over the initial bumps of depressive feedback art tends cause.
Ai art is bad because plagerism: yes but hopefully eventually it won't rely on plagerism in the future.
Ai art is a crutch: yes but hopefully it becomes a good crutch. The main feature of all crutches (medical) is you don't need to be injured to use them. As a child I used to play with crutches using them as a toy. Am I not allowed to have fun just because I was using the tool creatively? Or to bring up a different argument are fidget devices tools or toys? What about legos or minecraft? Can they be used as both? For ai art I think it's ok for people to use it as both a tool and a toy. What I feel makes a good crutch is that it's only fun for a little while eventually you get bored and want to try other things. It's rewarding to use but limited in usage. It's easy to move on because it's not addictively complex or infinitely entertaining. Play, bored, move on.
