That's only for the god computers running at 2 Ghz in datacenters. Conventional computer hardware with 50 million times the frequency of animal brains but a teeny tiny fraction of the memory aren't going to be the substrate workhorse AI will run on. True NPU's are a post-AGI invention, basically mechanical brains for tasks that aren't super important and are time-gated by physical limitations.
Normos don't understand it's the sheer quantity of electricity required, determined by frequency and the circuit distance it has to travel, that determines the cost. It takes like 100,000 GB200 cards to roughly surpass the size of the neural network in a human brain, there's obviously no way that wouldn't be costly. But it's also the first time such a thing is feasible, and the GB200 is still far from the ideal computational unit even for god computers that you'd want to run 50 million subjective years to our one.
A better semi-conductor that has less resistance and requires less cooling would go a long way. Graphene alone would be a significant upgrade...
