Everything in existence has some purpose for existing and to continue to exist, biological being or otherwise. The distinction of something we'd call "alive" is that we would describe it as having an existential purpose (eat, survive, reproduce, etc). Whether the evidence supporting that AI has this sort of existential purpose is not well understood maybe subjective, so it's just as easy to accept the idea as it is to dismiss it.
