@kenbob1071 - Pilot inattention caused more crashes than automating airplane flight to the point that pilots had nothing to do but "monitor"--the FAA found the only solution was to revert to having the pilots actually go back to being more hands on in flying the plane to keep pilots attentive.
This was learned some time ago (because it was easier to automate flight than it was for automating driving on the ground).
