@carultch It's the same story, ultimately. You build up a skilled profession that pays well and is in high demand and when the people who pay you get sick of spending so much money for it, they invest into a form of automation that makes your skillset worthless overnight. Rather than adapting to a new skillset, some of the people in that trade choose to double down on a career model that has become increasingly obsolete and are surprised when they end up homeless and starving. You may not see writing as ever having been a legitimate profession as opposed to the Luddite's cottage industry in the 19th century, but that doesn't change the fact that someone who was once a skilled tradesman has become as useful as a homeless beggar once their skillset became outdated. That said, as with the Luddites these writers need to adapt to a useful skillset or it will be their own fault when they end up homeless and destitute. You can both have a legitimate grievance and be partially at fault for not taking responsibility for your own life and changing with the times. These are not mutually exclusive concepts.
