I would disagree that it's impossible for a LLM to be conscious, as we haven't yet solved the hard problem of consciousness, we don't know what it is, or much about it. According to our current understanding, it's entirely plausible that an LLM could have consciousness. However, your point about just because it says it's conscious doesn't mean it actually is is spot on - in truth we can't know either way, regardless of what it says.
