@andordimeny6130 I agree with everything you just said (although with my own added context), except for one thing; "Thinking of AI art as a substitute or even a contender for real art is malicious because it is actively destructive to a community of people who are, given the overcapitalisation of art, already struggling." I think that's nonsense. I don't know how AI art can be both a threat and not a threat at the same time. I don't know how AI art can be not good enough compared to real art but also be argued as a shortcut past practice and skill for non-artists. I would like to add my own context to what you have to say about Photoshop; "Photoshop requires tremendous effort to learn to an extent where you can make art with it." I agree, and yes that is very different to just pumping out an image from a prompt with AI. But you and I both agree that unaltered AI generated images are not real *ART.* Let's say I generate an image from a prompt. I spend some time doing this as I have something specific in mind and am fine tuning it and doing multiple generations till I get something that works. Then I put this image into photoshop, I edit all the native AI mistakes (eyes, fingers, weird lines, other nonsense) and maybe I change the character's face to better match what I wanted or add in some more personalised detail like insignia or whatever. Have I done an Art? Did I use multiple image creation software to make real art? Or am I still coping? I think that it is art, and I think that REAL artists could blow it out of the water, knock it out of the park, if they start treating AI generation like more of a tool then as competition (while also saying it's not competition lol) I think, more than anything, what AI does to artists, is force them to meet a raised bar. I understand that's more pressure on an "industry" which has high participation with relatively low demand, but maybe bottom-rung artists just aren't real artist anymore either. The easier it gets to make art, the less impressive and unique their skillset becomes. REAL artists are utterly unthreatened, and their talents even potentially boosted by AI image gen tech. *Tl;dr* mostly agree but still think AI image gen is good for everyone including most artists.
