The same reason we feel pain: Self preservation.
If a robot can feel pain, it will take measures to defend itself. And if AI can ever develop other AI, it will definitely implement some form of self preservation for protection. Of course an AI would likely implement some method of turning off feeling pain if it knows it can't do anything to stop it.
