It's expensive because it's a skill that you have to practice for years, like being a locksmith. Throwing a brick through a window sure is cheaper, but it's a lot less destructive to idk, save up and hire someone with the skills you want because idk, their time is just as valuable as yours? If you can't afford it that doesn't mean it should stoop down to your level and just be cheaper, it means either you need to save up to buy something you really, really want or star looking for things actually within your price range. It's convenience. We're all poor too. A lot of us actually learned how to draw because we couldn't afford other people's commission prices. Deciding to use ai to replicate the style of those artists is a massive insult to the entire craft, all the years spent sucking and not being able to sell a single commission to finally having "made it" is now boiled down to only the end product as a commodity "in the style of samdrawsart" without any compensation for the blood sweat and literal years spent reaching for that goal. AI would not exist without the combined life's work of all of these artists, and they aren't being paid for it, they aren't being asked permission. I can't fathom how anyone would know that and still think it's worth it to directly contribute to the demise of the people whose skill you respect and admire enough to want an image in their style on your wall.
