Yea I think one of the better uses for AI are as backgrounds and parts of backgrounds. Justin Roiland's recent game uses AI generated posters as clutter and I'm convinced that using AI is a great way for animators to have backgrounds whipped up fast, so they can focus on the actual animation portion.
