People wont even vote for political leaders who actually represent the policy positions that most regular people support..... almost all countries stop short of criminally prosecuting rich and powerful people..... even if those people cause the 2008 great recession...... as a direct result of their criminality. I mean, that's an easy one... And we can't even do anything but fuck that up through fear, lack of interest, ignorance, distraction, deranged biases. If we're gonna keep letting brazen financial crime enthusiasts do whatever the fuck they want, we are certainly going to keep letting goggle do whatever the fuck THEY want, when it comes to AI. How many regular Americans, the country where Google HQ is, and is therefore regulated by the USA, care about AI and care what google will do with it? And how many of those people can vote?? And how many of them have a candidate to vote for, in some local , state, or federal primary or general election that will not only fight for good policy regarding big business and big AI computing, but will make it clear while campaigning that they understand the importance of it and the ethics of it. and how many Americans would NOT vote for such a candidate? I'm really tired and in a lot of pain, but I have one more thing to say. We seem to have far too many uninterested//distracted people, so that so many of the nice things the world could have, like proper public discourse about AI, or economic policy that works for everyone, not just billionaires like we very stupidly do now. Maybe only if average people start getting intelligence upgrades that wont exist for another 20 years, maybe then we could stop doing all the most important stuff in the world the wrong way because we would actually have the democratic countries elect leaders that do works for everyone best interest. Like they do in Scandinavia, not perfectly, just better than everyone else in the world. And now 5 South American countries are trying to copy as well, after the 5th country there elected a left wing economic populist. Maybe we could actually have productive public discourse in places like Canada and the USA and Australia and the U.K, if people got a little less distracted, and a little less fooled by propaganda designed to keep regular and working people fighting among themselves. then, when those societies start to take power into the hands of the people, and start prosecuting criminal elites and criminal billionaires etc, then that kind of stability and maturity could lead to the kind of appropriate discussions in enough corners of those societies, to affect real and positive policy change surrounding AI regulation and decision making, at the federal level of developed countries, particularly USA and the UK. Or to affect politics in that region or country, to where it becomes a campaign issue that is discussed with honesty, intelligence, transparency and determination. In my province of Ontario, only 15.9% of eligible voters voted for the party that runs my province, the conservative party, and their track record is about 2 - 3 things every month that negatively affect regular people in my province spread of among very serious topics. and same for the environment, and even scrapping many plans for many electric car charging stations , which is only the 37th most important terrible thing they ahve done. and with that 15.9%, they got a MAJORIOTY wing in the province and even picked up more than 10 extra seats in government. and they did all of this, without even having or posting a platform. They literally had no platform in writing for people to examine. And they won. In Canada. The supposed smarter neighbor to the north of USA. Only 43% of eligible voters voted in tis election in my province. And the conservatives parrty is the only party that is viewed as a Right wing party, and the only party that most of the 15.9% would ever vote for, simply because of the C. the letter C. That's the level of discourse we are at with politics. And there are 2 major known parties that are on the so called left, the Liberal, the New democratic Party, which split the vote of the left. ( it sucks that the prior Liberal government from 5 years back and earlier was such a non-populist & non-left-wing-economically-party for a so called left wing party while they ran Ontario ) , and even though we out number conservatives, we cant even stop 15.9% of eligible voters from winning a majority government. At this rate, we will never get to the point where we have the needed public discussions to the point that they become a real catalyst to policy change at the federal level in order to better regulate the R&D of AI in various American Corporations. that's why it wont get better unless gen x and millennials take over governmental power and they resist the urge to become neo - Liberals and Neo-conservatives... OR failing that, unless the average person has access to intelligence modifying technology that drastically increases the overall intelligence, hierarchical thinking, pattern recognition,,, multiple complex thoughts organization compartmentalizing, neo-cortex centered amygdala sensory input filtering for rationality,, etc. If people can see that they are being propagandized to, and distracted sufficiency, they can finally have enough solidarity to return to the 1950s! ( just kidding, though not kidding at all about the economic growth of the middle class in that era) ... but, yeah, to have enough solidarity to start taking on these MEGA CORPS doing whatefver they fuck they wanna do.
