AI understands only as so far it’s told. It’s given amount of information it’s told is true it can reference and is bound to it. It will not spontaneously create new thoughts outside of what it’s told it can think.
Its, as Penrose points out, is given a set rules by humans that it “knows” it must follow but has no grasp of why the rules are truths or why they should follow them or like curiosity to explore the whys. It just follows mindlessly.
