1) the solution is to improve our power grid. If not AI, something else would come along that would use just as much power.
2) AI doesn't actually use nearly as much water and energy as people insist it does. There's a large upfront cost in training, but overall just about anything else you do in your daily life outscales AI usage by a fairly heft margin. Like, literally leaving a lightbulb on in your house will use more power than an ai text inference. Images are more expensive, but a PS5 uses enough power in an hour to generate as few as 200 images.
