"Nobody is keeping anyone from being a programmer if they're female or being a nurse if they're male." Except AI hiring systems are already doing this. Look into the scrapped Amazon AI hiring system. It automatically downgraded resumes from applicants who attended women's colleges. The video didn't explain this very well, but AI systems look for associations. You can't just tell them to not discriminate against protected classes; they will learn that the average nurse did not attend Boy Scouts and the average programmer did not go to a HBCU, and therefor those resumes should be scrapped.
