Technological advancement always replaces career fields.
Nets replaced spear fishermen.
Medical breakthroughs replaced leech healers.
Printing presses replaced hand-writers.
Telegraphs replaced carrier pigeon cultivators and messenger boys.
Modern phone systems replaced operator switchboards.
Computers replaced entire industries.
Automation replaced mass-production jobs.
Mechanical harvesters replaced farm workers.
The internet replaced paperboys and printing press operators.
In every case, more jobs are created than are eliminated in part due to the expansion of industry due to the efficiencies of the breakthrough. All the displaced people had to retool and some didn't find a better job, but the future generations were able to get these new jobs. This is what keeps us growing long term.
It remains to be seen which jobs get replaced, which fields expand and which folks can adapt.
