I remember coding and using AI starting in the early 1990s for manufacturing applications. Even through the early 2000s, AI only used data owned by the company or licensed for a specific use in the production processes. During this period, AI was mainly used to program machine tools, transport vehicles, and other robots, to generate process routing sheets and machine setup instructions and tooling lists, to perform finite capacity planning, and similar uses.
While it could be argued that such AI took jobs that humans could perform, humans with the relevant skills were in extremely short supply and it took years to train them. It did not displace existing workers.
There were other forms of AI which led to "lights out manufacturing" during the 1990s. This was disruptive technology, reducing labor requirements to a couple of skilled technicians per shift who resolved equipment malfunctions and also performed supervisory tasks, such as production reporting.
I never envisioned generative AI and it being based on wholesale theft of intellectual property.
