@ashleyjazzley Please try to engage with the arguments: Not every art piece demands skill to be made or performed, that’s why I chose algorithmic art as an example. There are many artists who will tell you that they like executing the algorithm while they don’t need more than an hour to “write” the code (a toddler could execute it if you provide the parameters). But art may be conceived artistically. It can be made by remixing. AI art is a kind of remixing, using language (or call it code). Next argument: Beginning with the industrial revolution, art changed its ontic status: People started to compare it with mechanical replication (think of modern books). So artists started to think of art as a peculiar medium in the new technological age—it is both commodity and signifiant. « L’art pour l’art » could only be conceived in the modern era exactly because of its ambiguity. 20ᵗʰ century art, by being mostly an exercise in media relations (think of film and cubism), actually propelled the creation of multimedia artifacts. AI is just a logical consequence. And: Why keep repeating reactionary arguments against modern art? Do we really need to gatekeep it?
