I'm very glad you're opening up this topic, Hank. I've been focused on getting closer to the math and science of AI for nearly a decade. Both to better understand the nature of the brain as probably the most fascinating scientific frontier, but also to try and understand and prepare for what was clearly a credible existential threat. I became really disheartened in 2018 about our chances. But recently seeing this as a science communication problem (and that we didn't have fast takeoff a couple of years ago) has given me hope.
