I don't fully understand how. I get that using a likeness can cause cognitive dissonance, but "my image was used without my consent in sexual material"... I don't understand how that would ruin someone's life (as stated by the advocate in the video).
For example, I consider doxxing to be way more life-altering than deepfakes, yet there is not the same level of urgency and moral panic regarding legislation. Almost no countries have laws specifically regarding doxxing. I'm not implying that because doxxing has no laws: deepfakes shouldn't have laws. Both are bad.
However with doxxing the impact it has on victims is a lot more clear.
With deepfakes it seems to me any damage caused is damage done by sexual stigma and unaddressed insecurity. I don't understand how it is life-changing abuse for the victim unless they are harassed in ways outside of the deepfake itself.
