@Harbinger4533 A technology is not inherently unethical, there are AI art models that are trained only on authorized and public domain works and still you people claim it’s theft. This is a lie, art styles aren’t copyrightable, these models do not contain images that get sampled and “remixed”, that is also a lie. Images are literally generated from noise and it’s the removal of that noise that produces the results you see, any single variation in the prompt or settings can drastically alter the composition of the image, making getting the exact same result impossible. The results are never identical to the original, even when it’s really close, it still falls within the law under fair use. Fair use was put into the DMCA primarily because artists wanted to ensure copyright DID NOT restrict freedom of expression. AI art is a tool that is rapidly evolving, there are more techniques and tools being released daily that add more ability for users express their creativity in new ways to create completely new and unique works. Every new genre of art that comes along there are other artists saying it’s not art, this is a story as old as time. Instead of lobbying the government to further restrict freedom of expression and give more power to corporation monopolies, it would be smart to advocate for a decentralized system not owned by any single entity, where the artists themselves have more control. Blockchain and NFTs enable this, these are also revolutionary technologies, that are being exploited but that doesn’t make it inherently bad or unethical. Currently, there is no system in place to deal with these issues including the issues with NFTs, but the technology itself is capable of doing so much more for society than some overpriced monkey pictures. Unfortunately, morons who don’t take the time to understand a technology and thinking critically about the potential use cases, often are the first to dismiss it out of fear and ignorance. Just because a blockchain-based copyright system doesn’t exist, doesn’t mean that it couldn’t be used to enforce rules, add transparency and accountability to its users, automatically enforce licensing and disputes through smart contracts, artists community has actual equity into how rules are implemented through community governance, there’s a way to design the system to benefit artists and make disputes more accessible rather than the usual court process or expecting a corporation to give a damn about your rights. The biggest issue like I said before is there’s no good way to implement digital identity without government involvement, sure you can use social media for authentication, but that could be easily gamed or hacked. None of this has anything to do with the existing NFTs which were not developed with the same intentions. You can’t blame unethical or poor implementations on the technology itself, especially so early in the development of said technology.
