A.I. cannot "become self aware," that's the science fiction version of it. It can only mimic behavior, but it doesn't have actual intelligence or emotions. It can mimic emotions, but it doesn't actually understand what it's doing. If one isn't programmed to be offensive when being defensive and it were to be attacked in the street, it cannot become angry and violent and go on a killing spree. It would probably just call the police.
