Most people are "system 1" thinkers, so they base their world view off emotion and intuition, not logic. The machine learning algorithms certainly have an explanation on how they work, and you can study this, but most do the intuitive thing and project... Since almost everyone "thinks" this way, they feel validated. This begs the question: are they intelligent if they never think with system 2? Since they never actually understand!
