Very nearly everything derives from something, so I don't see this as an invalid argument, moreso an insensitive one. Because for years, art has basically been BY people, FOR people. But when you throw in the issue of "I know you worked years to hone your skills, but this janky algorithm is gonna replace you in a week because it's calculating what everyone's doing and copying it," it becomes a lot more threatening. It's not only derivative medium, but an outright threat, and an insult to real people who collectively worked. Real people who based their lives around their craft and are being thrown in the gutter in terms of relevancy. An entire concept is dying out because selfish people want everything handed to them on a silver platter.
They don't want to pay living people living wages. So yeah, obviously that's upsetting. This is gonna sound redundant, but people work years for this kind of thing, so to have their skills ignored for a robot that can do it faster all of a sudden hurts. A lot. Machines replacing people isn't a new concept, but that doesn't make it hurt less.
