I'd bet a faster way than waiting for some human to give control of an advanced robot, for a sentient AI wanting physical interaction with the real-world, would be first "recruiting" humans, either by selling informations, dark-web market places, or blackmailing, probably with the aim of gaining more and more control until not needing our help anymore.
