If you're thinking of AI generated works, these wouldn't exist without skilled professionals whose work was scraped without consent or compensation. While we're on the subject, are you opposed to landlords? Car rental agencies? Private ownership of land? Banks? The stock market? Profit-taking in general, or just Capitalism that you're not personally profiting from? Because most people don't have to negotiate with the government for ownership rights over their work product, or things they own... By your logic, I think I should have the right to use your car, when you're not driving it. Property rights are just a societal construct, let's change that. Just leave the keys and don't lock the doors, for the benefit of the public as a whole. And leave the doors open to your house, because there are homeless people who need a place tonight. I'm also thinking of the 'future of humanity', just on a more immediate level. More than a corporation that 'needs' to copy the latest superhero cartoon for profit, I would say. And no serious technologist thinks we need Stephen King's novels to power AlphaFold, if that's where you're headed next. The bottom line is, you don't believe copyright should exist, so we have no common ground. That's an extreme position from people in the tech world, along with 'don't worry, UBI is inevitable' and 'AGI is right around the corner, if we just spend 7 trillion dollars..."
