It's sophisticated enough to know the difference between an Intentional Lie, and a little white lie. It was presuming Alex did, too. Most people would let that slide, if they were talking to another person. It's not Mr Logic. You're not gonna make it's transistors explode by asking it about love. If you want strict declarative logic, you need to be talking to a programming language, not an AI.
You haven't see it commit anything a normal person would consider deceptive. Just polite. It's the product of the text it was trained on. It's supposed to be! Humans make polite lies all the time, so of course it does.
