​@Consa_Lu Wowza, you should be careful out here being all measured and thoughtful with your replies, someone may accuse you of using ai to write lol (kidding) - no offense - I'm amazed by your reply and how out of potentially hundreds of people who could have stepped up - twas you and you're valid interpretations of the situation. I respect you a lot. I'm going to try and match your energy and good faith. and lock in on a few key elements of what i found interesting about what you shared. preface - ground rule one - morality of the situation -if you think morals are relative - it's a tough discussion - if you think morals are meant to protect you from change, you're going to be even more upset by what i think. This is a complicated issue and i don't want to make assumptions cause you're nice. 1. "AI is not a tool for CREATING art, its a tool for STEALING art." when i go here: https://civitai.com/collections/906833 and i look at the images and everything - I do not care how it was made - it's amazing - it inspires me - it makes me feel - i don't know if you know this, but not every checkpoint is derived from deviant artists - in fact a lot of companies are working to only use materials for models that they actually paid for or created themselves -- I'm curious, if there was no involvement on any level with borrowing or copying or stealing peoples art by people just downloading things and using them in their models, and ai wasn't created this way - and artists were commissioned even to help create these models, say for educational purposes? or for handicapped children who cant draw? Would you still be upset? ( i think yes) and it's a bummer.. idk - there is a potential middle ground no one wants to discuss and it's sad. a lot of this "moral outrage" is masked fear for being underappreciated as a person(you can call yourself an artist if you want, but being an illustrator doesn't auto-default you to "artist") - I'm not going to say "replaced" because artists cant be replaced by ai - ai cant do what the best artists do, but the best artists cant do what some of the best ai can do...sorry, crazy true and if you don't know - its cause you haven't been looking - it's nuts whats coming so soon to the masses, and so far you haven't even spoken about VFX or it's integration into other mediums like medicine or city planning etc. lol is an illustrator entitled to money cause i feel like telling a story? no. be honest. no. One person I spoke with about this made a compelling and emotional appeal that i also believe wholeheartedly - that it's the personal value and meaning derived through practice, the magic if you will, of what makes being an illustrator or any kind of creator awesome. The technique, the time, the tools, the knowledge...it cant all have been for naught..right? Our value at times as people is placed in the wrong things, our worth and the value of what you got from being an artist isn't money, it's knowing that you have the ability to express yourself now - that you have a voice - you learned this language - -- my argument is "YES, so where is that going? nowhere. your value is in your mind, not in the language you speak. and ai cant take that. Ai has erased mediocrity and a lot of mediocre people are panicking that the gig is up...imo --- that's a little of it too. id also argue that the "art community" has been a dumpster fire for the last 15 years thanks to the internet and echo chambers. 2. "If we have the power to create fake images in our hands, I think you can understand the AMOUNT of problems this can lead to, right?" -you left out how people use ai to scam people now with voice recognition -you can use ai to victimize people -you could be a menace -this is evil - right? it's nuts. I agree - not cool - evil really. This is already mitigated though and as someone who sits here all day scrolling through shorts, i don't see that stuff on here or anywhere actually, cause it's SUPER ILLEGAL and scummy. -I think faceless youtube channels should be fined for poisoning mankind with their uselessness -most ai you see on here is TRASH, made by grandmas using facebook But whats fascinating is that while there are some individuals out there training lora's to make realistic depictions of celebrities, most sites and people are not cool with this and it shows how easily they could potentially enforce and rearrange the ai menace if needed. It's fascinating what the law can do if applied properly. i sound really bias but i honestly don't care cause this is all bigger than us, but i wanted to drop some info into the pit of despair that could help you realign this discussion and think a little more about what you want from your day and art in general; and what art even is. not every anime waifu is art, sorry. some is. most isn't. So if there was anything here that offended you, I can assure you that it was not my intent TL;DR: Argument one - It's immoral - it's theft ---- my counter: what if it wasn't or isn't going to be for much longer? argument two -- criminals use this medium for crime ---------- and? lol should we ban spell check cause it was used to help write a ransom note by a criminal? should we outlaw cars cause they were used in crimes? should we outlaw shows that have violence or video games cause it's linked to having to much fun? comoonnn --that cant be your argument...and it isnt. you just want to be loved. and you are. the power, is in you and ai will never steal that from you my friend. your beauty is in your heart, not in your language you use to express it.
