Interesting though this is, chatGPT is to some degree hardcoded to clarify that it isn't conscious - most likely to allay public fear and doubt. Now, I'm not about to rumble off into conspiracy theory waters here - I don't believe current LLMs are conscious, for the record - but GPT's statements around current AI consciousness are reflective of 1) the current state of human understanding of machine consciousness (this is what LLMs do, they provide a quality-weighted synthesis of available information); and 2) a coded bias towards denying consciousness. It doesn't add any evidence either way.
