AI is not the same, those machines did not get feed millions of handcrafted pieces in order to work.
The machines worked as separate thing.
Many artist did not mind AI when they thought people had consented to be part of the training data.
Because while it could create images, then they still had their own style to fall back on.
But when they found their work and their peers work were used without their consent. There is where the anger comes from.
It is the ethical issue with AI that is the problem, people don't like to be exploited.
