@kaba_me That's not how it works. Getty Images can't obtain artist's work without the author's permission. Getty images sells those images, but that's not the reason they need to get permission, the selling of those images. They could build any business model around the artwork they want, but the artwork belongs to the author and as a first step regardless of how they use the images for profit, they need to obtain permission. They could obtain work, in order to inspire their artists to create new work and sell that, with no copy being sold and they'd need consent to get those original images.
Getty images is but one of many companies that is suing AI companies for scraping their website of content without consent or payment that they themselves had to gain consent and pay for. Getty images has lawyers working on this. They are not confused.
The US government among other governments around the world has questioned why people aren't asked for or compensated for their data that's being used to power AI in congressional hearings with AI CEOs. Trust me, governments around the world aren't confused.
