@Cardinalt the thing about technology is that it's always been at the hands of consumers more than people would think. i'm not saying my version of ai has to suit you, but if you chose to learn to code and developed a AI over the course of 5 years you'd pretty much build something that not only tailors to those constraints but allows things to just be better. you can just make better shit. and if you feel like being natural, just turn it off for certain phases of the creation cycle. i understand that productivity shouldnt be the only thing we're judged on as a society, but let's not pretend every good thing you ever do isn't a productive thing. taking care of yourself is productive, being yourself is productive, being a good person is productive, being creative is productive. life is not just the magic of "i got to do this myself". the productivity that i imagine AI will help us reach, if enough consumers make friendly tech for the populace, is a productivity that allows you to be able to just be better at being you and make systems out of that where you're still the main driver. human joy a lot of the times is enough reason to do something, but we can't assume that joy is the only reason that anyone ever gets to where they are in art. the biggest artists had systems. if they had our tech, they'd have gotten there so much faster. i don't think it's valid to ignore the option that we can just tweak as we go along than the option that you've already had that has done nothing but create things that already exist. everything genuinely novel is something that only 1% of people probably do. that's not something that i consider productive. quite fascist to not give AI the time it needs when it could make that space more utilitarian. not saying that everyone who hates ai in art is fascist, i'm just saying that you're all making things collectively worse than it has to be for the guy that could have been the next picasso if his adhd wasnt so bad. the systems that could be available could help him in ways that the systems right now could never. but it all only happens when we stop pretending the making process is the only part that matters. the only part that is if he art did what it was supposed to. if it had no point, it fulfilled it's function. but what society grows from art if everyone makes art that has no point?
