That said - I found this video to be back-and-forth. In some cases you bash AI, in others you praise it "when theres a person behind it" - there's always a person behind it. Always was. AI isn't just continuously generating every character in every possible situation, you can use it to create new characters (OCs), you can use it to rapidly prototype clothing, hairstyle or minor changes to existing characters. The problem is the barrier to entry to making art is suddenly much lower. And just like the indie scene with music and games (also forms of art whose barrier to entry got obscenely low), there was a flood of trash with some diamonds in the rough. There is still a person behind it with a vision they want. They encounter the same issues with commissioning art: if you're not super specific with stuff, the artist will have to take creative liberties. The artist will (or should) send you snapshots along the journey (almost certainly at the sketch phase) to make any changes before finalizing it, and the buyer accepts that since the artist can't read minds, there needs to be some allowance for changes of their vision. The artist could easily provide something full of errors the buyer might notice (I've seen countless artists re-upload images because they forgot a layer or noticed a mistake after showing it to the world [myself included, or even a hidden issue like a color space being wrong so it looks correct in Krita and in Discord, but Windows Wallpaper makes it super dark, an issue I discovered last week], it's not even remotely AI exclusive). If the buyer doesnt care enough or doesnt look closely enough, these errors make it to the final product. The point of art is to be able to express an overall idea or feeling. Which AI art does perfectly fine so long as the person behind it is willing to learn and do what it takes to make it so. That makes them an artist - regardless if bandwagoners (thats all they are) deem it "true art". (Also the digital art transition faced exactly the same pushback: "its not real art hur dur", now it's broadly accepted)
