@Dave Davis - There are hundreds of stations that have attendants or at least an employee in the store. (I'm talking about gas stations, not truck stops)
And when self driving vehicles come on the road in numbers, gas stations will adapt to meet the needs of the customer. Same thing with electric outlets.
Remember, when cars were introduced, there were no existing filling stations.
