He warns about dangers of the rapidly advancing technology, after he realised that current LLMs' intelligence already is at a much higher level than previously estimated. This includes Google's large generative AI models, so after he quit Google there isn't a conflict of interest when speaking out. I think his expressed motivations are perfectly understandable, not vague at all.
