It's not about recognition; it's about what an AI system does with that recognition. The consequences aren't just hurt feelings. If an AI system automatically throws out men's resumes for nursing positions, that's illegal discrimination in the U.S, harmful to qualified job seekers, harmful to places of employment which are facing a nursing shortage, and harmful to the nursing profession.
