Companies have a vested interest in blaming AI for layoffs. On the one hand, investors LOVE layoffs because it reduces cost. On the other hand, saying that you fire them because of AI implies that you are investing in AI solutions and your productivity will increase, which is another reason for the share price to go up. You cannot trust any CEO that says they are laying of people due to AI because it's in the company's interest to blame AI even if it has nothing to do with it.
