I think it's like the Facebook creators going on record with the "we knew we were creating a monster" bit - they all know they're playing with fire but no way in hell is anybody walkin away from the table when the discovery of the code or even sections of code that lead to "the code" will make the discovery of nuclear fusion take a back seat permanently - anyone who doesn't think AI is scary = isn't thinking.
