Well it does save time. Poor point. If contents of email is taking your time now then it means without email, you would be so much less efficient as your time goes to stuff that could have been an email. Everyone drives a car now, do you think you would save time without car being invented? Of course not, that would be stupid to even suggest. Email is no different.
