That “if you’re a good person, you have nothing to worry about” line is one of the most dangerous moral traps in history — it assumes that those in control are always fair, and that being “good” is something simple and measurable. In reality, “good” becomes whatever the system defines it to be at that moment. People can lose access to basic rights not because they’ve harmed anyone, but because they’ve spoken up, made a mistake, or annoyed someone in power.
Surveillance doesn’t make people moral, it just teaches them to hide better. It breeds conformity, fear, and silence. A society constantly watched is one where trust is replaced by calculation, and compassion gives way to self-preservation. Creativity, honesty, and dissent — the things that make progress possible — all suffer.
And... Who watches the watchers? Who ensures their motives are pure, their data not abused, their algorithms not biased? That’s the fundamental flaw — no one can.
