I mean it was the only way to prevent it from repeating or spouting racism. There is a lot more racist bile on the internet and data sources they scrape than articles on oppression of minorities. LLMs and any automated scrapers that feed them are unable to tell the difference.
Plus while they do abuse a lot of employees at starvation wages working break neck pace to review some of this stuff, it often means that the employees that review for such things are too overworked or lack the cultural context to recognize it
