I know right?! Sometimes the intentionality and story of a work of art just adds so much to it. My favorite is “Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue” by Barnett Newman. A master class move of rage bait before twitter was a thing lol, because apparently someone was so afraid that they vandalized it and tried to vandalize more paintings of the same series. And there is also the artist merit of the work, because the restoration was so shitty (just a dude passing a roller with acrylic paint over it) that it ended up making it more obvious how the original way the color was painted resulted in a more pleasant looking color and contrast than something obtained from cheap restoration. Something interesting to me about your story of the rock Portable, is how it made people more connected to the real world and other people. It seems to be an inside joke that Canadian hikers can share between each other, a motivation and an emotional reward for hiking, and something that united people to go on a manhunt together lol. On the other hand, AI seem to cause more isolation, because they are so personalized you can’t share inside jokes about it, there is no chance to form a community out of love for the same object, and it encourages to stay inside with your phone/computer. Not to mention the whole can of worms about how AI companies are intentionally making people emotionally attached to their AI chatbots, so they can continue charging them with subscriptions models and milking them that way like cash cows.
