Part of what's frustrating here is the AI doesn't have to try. The AI doesn't spend years honing a craft, the closest thing to that would be the ones who set up the deep learning code. The AI doesn't experience struggle or risk or hesitation, it just pops images out and they either look good or they don't. Artists (generalization here, but a pretty safe assumption) don't have any empathy for ai because it doesn't deal with things like doubt. It doesn't spend afternoons and evenings without food because it doesn't want to break its focus. It doesn't spend long hours studying specific traits to designs that just don't look quite right when it does it. It obviously can be janky, but it's just a shiny toy that makes everyone want to shut the real big bad artists up. But I just wonder. In encouraging those real artists to give up, what are the non-artists gaining? The arguments are that technological advancements can't be resisted and any resistance is futile. Okay, but why is everyone so determined to tell artists this? What could non-artists possibly hope to gain save for maybe not having to be annoyed by someone with actual skill in that field? This isn't an "ohoho, I'm better than you," thing, just... it's suspicious.
