The problem with "everything being free" is that even if energy and labor become infinite for free, physical resources are not. Think about it this way: If everything is free with no limits, what stops someone from ordering a billion glass aquariums just to smash them for fun? Without a 'throttle' on resources, one irresponsible person could deplete materials that others actually need. Money (or 'credits') acts as that throttle. It prevents waste and determines what actually needs to be manufactured. This is where Universal Basic Income (UBI) comes in. If AI and robots eventually do 100% of the labor, from mining and farming to repairing themselves, then we don't need to work for survival. We could have our housing, food, and healthcare covered, but we’d still use UBI 'credits' for our specific hobbies and wants. It balances the freedom to live without a job while preventing people from abusing the system. There’s also the 'population' issue that directly correlates with finite resources. If everything is provided for and someone has 100 kids because if AI robots are doing all the child-raising and paying the bills, that seems like a problem to me. Total freedom without limits could lead to chaos because of irresponsible humans. Even with restrictions/laws, people still do bad things. Even if you made a law saying "it's all free, but don't abuse it or you go to jail", you've basically just reinvented a credit system with extra steps. UBI is the only way to get rid of labor without the whole world falling apart from resource abuse.
