As a Californian I'd trust an autonomous car on the road before I'd trust the "average" driver. I wouldn't trust it to drive me around at high speed, but you can't drive 5 minutes here without some moron barreling down at 30 over, changing lanes with inches between another vehicle, or swerving halfway over the line.
