@Firewynn It's a problem as it's straddling the line between referencing and image plagiarism. We have laws to define the lines when it comes to human artists (though of course the laws aren't perfect), and to be honest by those laws the process an AI uses is questionable. When I was in university doing graphic design, one guy fucked up massively during a live project (for a real client) by creating a digital painting while using a photo as a "reference", but while his digital painting was different from the original, it was still too close and there were a couple of small areas (only small, but still enough) where if you laid the painting on top of the photo you could see it was a direct copy. His work had to be scrapped after three different tutors assessed the situation and said that it was against copyright law, and as this was a commercial project that would make money, it would be illegal to use his work as he hadn't used a photo he had the rights to or license to use. AI artwork does similar things, which was proven by the Artstation artists who uploaded a bunch of artwork with red shapes and lines all over it to test the AI, which caused red lines (sometimes very similar shapes and lines) to start appearing in it's work. That indicates that the AI is leaning more heavily towards image plagiarism than simple referencing or inspiration. I think AI could be a great tool and a good opportunity for artists who can integrate it into their work, but as far as ethics go, the line is currently blurry.
