As AI stands right now I think the only way it can really assist art in that way is generating visuals for ideas. If you try to use it for the final product or reference it directly, it's just using an amalgamation of plagiarized work in a way that's different from filtering ideas inspired by other art through human imagination, error and differences in perception that make it unique in a way AI just can't. But if you need rough ideas for, just for example, what a rabbit in a top hat and waistcoat riding a unicycle might look like and looking at individual references of those things just isn't going to get the ideas going you could generate a rough idea but then do the rest yourself
Other than that I don't see a way to use it as a tool yet that doesn't kill the creative process
