I think this statement misses alot of Nuance, Mark Rober's video was deceitfully edited and only after the fact supporting video released by Mark clarified the situation, His test was done with Tesla's Autopilot and not its FSD Beta which is Tesla's best autonomous system so it was an unfair comparison. People have tested Mark's situation with FSD and on Hardware 3 Tesla, previous generation with full self driving it yielded with the same results as Mark however with Tesla's Latest Software and Latest Hardware, the Vision based systems could detect and stop for the Scenario Mark Rober had in his video of a screen that looked like a road. Independent testing done in China by DCAR which can be found on Youtube shows that Tesla's vision based system was onpar and many cases were far better than LIDAR systems from Chinese Autonomous vehicles even though Tesla's are not allowed to be trained on Chinese Vehicle Data, It is more of a reasoning problem and less a hardware problem for these automous vehicles in some respect George Hotz, developer of an OpenSource ADAS system had the quote paraphrased "If statements kill people"
