My understanding is, Helen wrote a research paper perceived of being critical towards OpenAI development policy.
Sam Altman then, allegedly, tried to remove her from OpenAI but then, she and at least three others, pushed for removing Altman from OpenAI. Helen's attempt failed, ending with, Helen and a few others removed from OpenAI instead.
I tried finding the research paper, but was unable to find anything about it anywhere. It could be that it was never released or that it was an internal paper only.
So, in a sense, it's true, she did try a coup inside OpenAI and was apparently, allegedly the one responsible for such attempt.
